Hello fellow escapers,
I am Mike and this is my wife, Corry.
Why is this significant? We just happen to be the new owners at 5th Street Escape Room! This has been a long process, but we are excited to continue the work that the previous owner started.
Our journey began around the middle of last year, when we decided that owning an escape room was exactly what we wanted to be doing with our lives. So, I attended the first ever Escape Room Conference, in Chicago last August, to get an idea of exactly what we were getting ourselves into. I learned a lot about the industry over that weekend, and was invigorated to go all-in on the idea. The next week we began scouting locations to set up shop, and continued playing as many games as we could. One of the many games we happened to play was the bank heist at 5th Street Escape Room. The room was tons of fun, one of the best we’ve done, and we heard it was going to be changing soon to be a museum heist theme. “How could this room possibly change for the better”, we asked ourselves, we had to come back and try the new one… and so we did.
We did The National Heist: Locking Down Liberty and it was even better than the bank heist, it had everything we loved in an escape room! The immersive narrative-driven theme, open game flow, large physical space, and difficulty made it the best room we had ever done. We told the owner that we loved it, and were thinking about opening one ourselves. He replied with, “well, you know this one is for sale”. We were absolutely floored that this was going to be an option… our favorite room was for sale!
After months of planning, finding funding, writing a business plan, and executing everything… we signed papers and got the keys to the building! I am thrilled to have had this opportunity, and will do everything I can to make the Escape Room community proud, and carry on the legacy the previous owner has started.
